Conrundum is found in nature as well as created in labs. Mostly these gemstones are blue and black. Lab created Spinel imitates the visual qualities for its natural "prototype", i.e. Ruby, Garnet, Alexandrite, but has a different composition.

Material: Lab created Gemstone (Corundum)
Embedding in metal clay: in bone dry pieces with a stone setting bur
drill a small whole for the bur to work easier
grab stone with a tweezer or your finter tip
set stone with point down into whole of sufficient depth
flat side of the stone has to be set deeper than the clay surface
fire larger stones with lower temperature to reduce shrinkage
Firing: tested at
max. 900°C (1650°F) up to 2 hours in silverclay
max. 830°C (1525°F) up to 2 Stunden in bronzeclay
max. 970°C (1778°F) for 20 minutes in copperclay
avoind temperature shock, do not heat or cool too fast
